Brushing is the best way of protecting your shiny beautiful teeth. But that’s not all. Just get lazy and skip a session and you're encouraging the growth of bacterial buildup around the teeth .This can lead to gum problems (in the form of gum swelling and bleeding) and cavities.
Let’s do a small test.
Right now, as you are reading this post, run your tongue across your teeth and feel how the tooth surface feels. Compare this with the feeling you have just after bushing.
Within 2-3 hours after brushing the bacterial buildup around the teeth begins again. This leads to the stickiness you feel on the teeth if you run your tongue across them a few hours after brushing.
Did you know?
If this bacterial buildup isn’t disrupted by brushing twice a day, it starts getting calcified. Hardened plaque called tartar. Tartar requires professional cleaning by a dentist.
Moreover, the flow of saliva in the mouth that acts as a cleansing agent is lower at night. Thus, if teeth are not cleaned at night there is a higher chance of damage to the teeth.
Proper brushing is a must.
That twice-a-day routine should be taken seriously. Preferably with fluoride toothpaste and a medium bristled brush must be used. Ideally each brushing session should be for about 2-3 minutes and cover all surfaces of the teeth. This should be supplemented by flossing once a day and visiting a dentist regularly.
No replacement:
Also, gum, mints and mouthwash are not a replacement to brushing. Although providing your mouth a fresher feel, they do not remove any plaque. Brushing and flossing are the only ways to effectively, remove the plaque.
